Don’t replace justice until next inauguration

The Supreme Court of the U.S. is the final arbiter of the law and charged with ensuring for every refrain from naming a replacement until after the next president is inaugurated American equal justice under law.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the second woman ever to serve as a Supreme Court justice. She dedicated her entire career, on and off the court, to protecting rights for women and LGBTQ individuals, and advancing justice for millions of Americans.

The nation owes it to RBG and to all women to honor her final wishes and refrain from naming a replacement until after the next president is inaugurated.

There is no precedent for the speed with which the current nominee is being rushed through the Supreme Court process. From 1986 to the present, the average time from a vacancy created to nomination is 65 days and the average time from vacancy created to a hearing is 113 days. We must honor RBG and wait to appoint.

It is a lifetime appointment. We will accept nothing less than a principled, dignified defender of justice who will utilize her position on the bench to safeguard civil rights for all.
