Prudent to take chance with tourism opening?

Mayor, we all know you are under pressure from the banks, merchants and Maui Chamber of Commerce to open the island to tourists and economic recovery.

It is you who will get the credit for the deaths and disabilities which are sure to arrive with the entitled tourists.

Tourists will lie, cheat and steal to get here. The tests will mean nothing. Especially the ones who think COVID-19 and rules don’t apply to them. Like Trump. Maybe you are one of them. I don’t know.

I do know you will get the negative press for the deaths to follow opening up Maui to tourists. This will be your legacy.

You could be blamed for more deaths on Maui than from all the wars or all other causes.

Thirty-six states are showing upticks of the virus. Where do you think these tourists will be coming from and what will they bring with them? Is it prudent to take the chance?

Pono, kuleana and malama. What do they really mean? “Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life.” Not service to the banks. Good luck.
