Great deputy sheriffs retired at end of 2020
At the end of 2020, Hawaii State Sheriff Department Maui Division retired two great deputy sheriffs: Lieutenant Patrick Sniffen and Sergeant James “Jimbo” Medeiros.
The lieutenant had 42-plus years and sergeant 35-plus years. How they put up with me is utter saintly on its own, but these men were obviously special.
Lt. Sniffen had the heart and compassion of a lion. Even at his many years of service, there was always something to learn from him.
From handling the public or the bosses on Oahu, he was always playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers.
Sgt. Medeiros’s presence in any room was bar none. He commanded respect with little or no words spoken. The Maui community loved Jimbo, with never an ill word spoken against him. He was a problem solver that had seen it all.
God bless and Godspeed enjoying your very earned retirement.
Deputy Andrew Bayron
