Hyperpartisan environment ultimately led to disaster

Despite the pontification, neither politicians nor the media have focused on the politicians’ complicity in the insurrection at the Capitol.

Over the last 40 years, Congressmen and senators from both parties have benefited from creating a hyperpartisan environment, becoming more extremist left or right, and openly encouraging division versus compromise.

Yes, Trump over the last four years was the final straw; but he’s the end result, not the root cause of the problem.

So, my question in all this is: When are the politicians going to accept their responsibility for the whole mess and begin moving more toward centrist statesmanship and away from hyperpartisan reality television? When will they start having more sense of country over party?

The disgrace at the Capitol was a wake-up call. Will the politicians listen and return to statesmanship instead of hyperpartisanship?

They will if the public stops rewarding the hyperpartisanship and starts voting for rational candidates instead of just looking for an “R” or “D.”
