Why make it harder for tourism to recover?
Why make it harder for Hawaii’s tourism industry to recover by requiring a second COVID-19 test upon arrival?
It should be relatively easy to get most Hawaii residents vaccinated fairly quickly, thereby rendering required COVID-19 testing unnecessary.
Hawaii’s relatively small population of 1.4 million makes it possible to vaccinate nearly the entire population within a short period of time.
California has already fully vaccinated 7.8 million people, but that’s still only 20 percent of total state residents. Although 23.6 percent of Hawaii residents are fully vaccinated, that accounts for just 334,000 people.
An all-out effort to quickly achieve near-total vaccination seems like the best path to reviving Hawaii’s tourism, not creating yet more travel hurdles.
