Kihei, once a wasteland, now boosts island economy

When I was a small boy many years ago, Kihei was what many considered rubbish wasteland.

My grandmother used to tell me that if you were to buy land in Kihei, everybody would laugh at you.

She said that when Bill Azeka bought large amounts of land in Kihei, family and friends thought he was crazy to waste his money buying rubbish land.

Today, Kihei has changed. What many considered a waste of money now is a good investment.

Kihei development was good for Maui’s economy, providing jobs for the people.

Now, people complain about development in Kihei, which was once a wasteland.
