Officers praised for catching burglar in act

We are celebrating our 40th year of being a Maui business. We have been blessed with the support of our local community throughout the years.

We were blessed in another way in the early morning hours of July 25 at our Kihei location on South Kihei Road. Six Maui police officers (some working double shifts and overtime hours) responded to a break-in. Believe me, it was a blessing when they apprehended this thief inside our store in the middle of his heist.

We have had numerous burglaries, and break-ins at our locations throughout our 40 years, but this is the first time the thief was caught in the act. Our 60 employees can’t thank MPD enough and the six dedicated officers who responded: Sgt. Masa Kaya, Sgt. Justin Mauliola, Officer Aaron Mark, Officer Dan Devine, Officer Toma Asuega-Stark, and Officer Keola Aquino, and apprehended the thief. Det. Nicholas Angell did an awesome job with the follow-up and gathering evidence.

As Sgt. Mauliola told me, “It definitely is no one-man band. None of it (arrest) would have happened without all of these officers.”
