Mauian finishes just prior to Boston Marathon explosion
April 15, 2013 - Robert Collias
By our count, there were five runners from Maui in the Boston Marathon, where two explosions this morning killed two and injured what is currently being counted at 86.
One of the Mauians in the race was Nicola Gifford, who finished just minutes before the first explosion, which came four hours, nine minutes into the race.
The following is an excerpt from this Boston Globe story posted on boston.com.
For Nicola Gifford, a waitress from Maui, today’s race was her first Boston Marathon. She had just crossed the finish line when she heard a big bang.
Gifford, 47, said she was scared. “I thought the other buildings were going to go down.”
We are all over this story and will bring the Maui angle as things progress.
