Maui-San Rafael first-place showdown: Pacifics lead 2-0
July 18, 2013 - Robert Collias
The first-place showdown between Na Koa Ikaika Maui and the San Rafael Pacifics has begun. Coming in, the Pacifics (29-10) lead the Pacific Association by 1 1/2 games over Na Koa (29-13).
It was scoreless through 5 innings here at Maehara Stadium as Maui's Jesse Smith and San Rafael's Logan Odom were each solid early.
The Pacifics took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth on two unearned runs as Maui committed a pair of errors on one play and the first run scored on a wild pitch as Smith was trying to intentionally walk Chase Fontaine.
Smith has allowed seven hits and Odom just three so far as San Rafael continues to lead 2-0 going ot the bottom of the eighth.
You can check in on things through the Pacifics' twitter feed with team's media operations manager and traveling secretary Hunter Horenstein keeping things updated.
Or follow the Pacifics' very cool website here.
Of course, stay tuned right here for updates and check the paper for my full game story tomorrow morning.
