Maui-San Rafael game 2 underway

July 19, 2013 - Robert Collias
Here is the start of my story from today's paper on the opener between Na Koa Ikaika Maui and the San Rafael Pacifics:

WAILUKU - The first round of the showdown for first place went to San Rafael.

The Pacific Association-leading Pacifics took advantage of two unearned runs for a 3-0 win over Na Koa Ikaika Maui in front of about 300 fans at Maehara Stadium on Wednesday night.

Logan Odom (5-0) outdueled Jesse Smith in a game that saw Smith (5-2) go the distance in the loss. Odom allowed three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in eight innings. Colin Allen pitched the ninth inning for his ninth save of the season.

Tonight's second game is tied at 1-1 in the top of the fourth -- a crucial game for Maui, which now trails San Rafael by 2 1/2 games.
