Ex-Baldwin pole vaulters score in conference meets

May 19, 2014 - Robert Collias
The friendly rivalry between pole vaulters Kristine Felix and Amber Kozaki was fun to watch as they leaped to national-level heights and won state titles when they competed for Baldwin High School.

Now, they are scoring points in championship meets for NCAA Division I programs.

Felix, who won the Pac-12 title last year at 13 feet, 4 1/4 inches as a Washington State freshman, tied for sixth at the conference meet over the weekend with a vault of 13-0 3/4.

Kozaki, now a freshman at Hawaii, finished fourth at the Big West meet over the weekend, at 12-8 1/4.

The NCAA West Regional meet is May 29-31 in Fayetteville, Ark. — Felix, with a 13-6 1/4 leap earlier this year, is in the field of 48 — and the NCAA championship meet is June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
