Hawaii baseball falls at Long Beach

The University of Hawaii baseball team threatened late but fell short against Long Beach State 3-2 on Sunday at Long Beach, Calif.

The Rainbows (12-33, 7-14 Big West) put a runner at third base in the eighth and ninth, but couldn't break through.

The 49ers (24-25, 11-10) scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on Juan Avila's sacrifice fly.

David Hill (4-2) picked up the victory after allowing one run over six innings.

Matt Cooper (2-7) allowed two runs over six innings for UH. Kalei Hanawahine went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
