Hawaii Pacific Solar, with HEA Hawaii Solar, has signed a contract to install solar photovoltaic systems on two Hale Mahaolu projects on Maui.
The systems will be installed on the senior housing at Hale Mahaolu Ehiku in Kihei that has 115 units and the 35-unit Hale Mahaolu Eono in Lahaina.
Construction was scheduled to begin this month, and the system should be operational at the beginning of December, a news release said.
The total amount of PV installed will be 97.5 kilowatt hours, producing an estimated 143,000 kwh of electrical power annually, the news release said.
The systems will be owned and operated by Kairos Energy Capital under a Power Purchase Agreement in which the power produced will be sold at a rate lower than is currently paid for power over a 20-year period.
The estimated annual savings to Hale Mahaolu is $21,000, the news release said. Under a PPA, there will be no upfront installation costs to Hale Mahaolu, only the obligation to purchase the power produced.
