Making it a point to recall history of Makawao

November 20, 2013
The Maui News
National Cowgirl Hall of Fame member Rose Freitas points out members of her family, including her mother as a young girl, Friday night to Teddy Rodrigues and Susan Vickery during the opening of the Makawao History Project. Freitas loaned items to the museum-style exhibit of her hometown but said it was a pleasant surprise to see someone else had contributed the family photos dating back to the early 1900s. The Makawao History Project celebrates many facets of the Upcountry town’s history and unique character. It is located in the former Randy J. Braun gallery at 1152 Makawao Ave. It is scheduled to be open Mondays to Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 31.
