April 2, 2014

Ricardo De La Torre Sr. plants a coconut tree while his son, Ricardo De La Torre Jr. (right), and Micah Nemoto watch Saturday afternoon at a cemetery at Vineyard and Ilina streets in Wailuku. The boys are members of Wailuku Elementary School Cub Scout Pack 68, which cut back 9-foot-high cane grass around graves at the cemetery as part of a weekend community service project. The coconut tree was planted as a marker near the grave of William “Pop” Hutton, who was the founder of Scouting on Maui, said Pack 68 Cubmaster Brad Breitbach. Waste Tech donated dumpsters and Service Rentals provided equipment for the cleanup.
