William (Bill) Kennedy Lyon, 55, of Makawao, HI died Saturday, March 1, 2014 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born on July 30,1958 in Newport News, VA, and, being the son of an Air Force officer, moved around quite a bit in his early years. The Lyon family settled in Boca Raton, FL in 1967 where Bill grew up.
Bill was a resident of Makawao for many years and called Maui his home. His greatest love was for the earth, all growing things, and especially the island of Maui. He worked as an organic soil farmer with his business, LivingLand Company. He specialized in making advanced and unique kinds of compost which he sold to local gardeners, nurseries and farms. He also farmed and harvested fruits and vegetables. Bill loved music, a good book, wilderness camping, political satire, organic food, and living "off the grid" with energy provided by solar power. He had a keen intellect, sense of humor, and a gift for writing. He was an ardent environmentalist and "earth-keeper". He was one of a kind.
