Lahaina team wins at Arizona tournament

Lahaina Volleyball Club won the girls 16 championship in the Volleyball Festival that took place Thursday to Sunday in Phoenix.

The team won all 12 of its matches — six in two-set sweeps.

The title match was won by forfeit over Arizona’s Champions Block.

The Lahaina team members were Marley Calapini, Melody Casco De Leon, Mahealani Criste, Jaylani Fujita, Ashley Ganer, Taylor Ganer, Sherlin Ravida, Nicole Turno and Willa Varquez. Trixy Nuesca-Ganer was the coach.

Sparks claim Level 2 crown on Oahu

Sparks Basketball Maui’s high school girls team won a Level 2 title in the Pacific Rim Championships that took place Friday to Sunday at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu.

Sparks defeated Next Level of Nevada 56-42 in the final, completing a 4-0 run through the tournament.

The team comprised Angel Pauole, Neil Mae Bumanglag, Honey Let Padasdao, Namahana Kaeo-Young, Mayghen Thornton, Tatiana Soon, Kamaile Cugal, Sade Mizusawa and Iolani Kamakau, with coaches Victor Aguirre, Bill Thornton and Matt Pauole and managers Chris Pauole and Kanoe Visaya.

Kubo records fourth lifetime hole-in-one

Mike Kubo of Kihei recorded his fourth lifetime hole-in-one Saturday at Maui Nui Golf Club, where he is employed.

Kubo aced the 17th hole, using a 7-iron for the 141-yard shot, which was witnessed by Frank Suda.

Lunas’ JV football practices to start

Practice for the Lahainaluna High School junior varsity football team will begin July 17.

A current physical form and a consent form must be turned in before participating.
