Molokai High School overcame an early deficit and then held off Seabury Hall’s fourth-quarter rally for 35-26 win Saturday in Hoolehua in each teams’ opening game of the Maui Interscholastic League eight-player football season.

Shraedon Naeole-Starkey threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score for Molokai, which entered the second quarter trailing 6-0 before putting up 35 unanswered points en route to a 12th straight win.

Naeole-Starkey completed touchdown passes of 5 and 68 yards to Kaimana Nakayama in the second quarter, and ran for a 6-yard score.

Braiden Asuncion had a 22-yard touchdown run for the Farmers in the third quarter, and Naeole-Starkey threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jayse Lalim-Rillion in the fourth. The Spartans closed the gap when Tai Ornellas returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score, and Jack Almeida then ran for a 2-yard touchdown and threw a 19-yard scoring pass to Kai Preseault, but the Farmers held on in the matchup of the only teams ever to have claimed MIL titles — Molokai has won the last two, after Seabury claimed the first three.

Alemedia’s 78-yard touchdown pass to Preseault in the first quarter opened the scoring.
