Devault, Payne move on at Hawaiian Pro

First photo: Imaikalani Devault of Makawao competes during the second round of the Hawaiian Pro on Wednesday at Alii Beach Park in Haleiwa, Oahu. Devault scored a 14.70 to win his heat, which also included fellow Maui surfer Billy Kemper. Kemper was eliminated from the World Surf League qualifying series event after his 12.94 left him third. Cody Young (9.64) was also eliminated after a third-place finish in his heat.

Second photo: Lahaina’s Dusty Payne rides a wave Wednesday. His 11.76 was good enough for a second-place finish in his heat and a spot in a third-round heat against Frederico Morais of Puerto Rico, Brazil’s Yago Dora and Australia’s Dion Atkinson. Devault will take on a trio of Brazilians — Filipe Toledo, Tomas Hermes and Lucas Silveira.
