Guzman, Sabers top Spartans for first league win of season

Reese Guzman fired a 39 to lead the Maui High School girls golf team to its first win of the season, 138-155 over Seabury Hall on Tuesday afternoon at Maui Country Club in Spreckelsville.

Guzman, last season’s Maui Interscholastic League individual champion and state runner-up, took medalist honors as the Sabers improved to 1-2-0. Emily Mitra shot a 47 and Camryn Ban added a 52. Kylie Ginoza’s 55 was dropped.

With just two players, the Spartans (1-1-1) got a 40 from Joy Callinan and 43 from Kelsie Sparks.

Baldwin girls 121, Lahainaluna 163

At Kaanapali Kai Course, Lana Calibuso-Kwee fired a match-low 38 and Jaelin Ishikawa added a 39 as the Bears improved to 3-0-0.

Katherine Swor had a 44 as Baldwin’s other scorer. Alexa Jackson’s 45 was dropped.

Hannah Valencia had a 44 to lead the Lunas (0-2-1). Ciana Lins shot a 59 and Alana Duran carded a 60. Kirsten Balucan’s 75 was dropped.
