Kansas, Michigan State, UCLA in 2019 Maui Invitational field

Powerhouse programs and past tournament champions Kansas, Michigan State and UCLA are among the teams heading back to Lahaina Civic Center for the 2019 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
The men’s college basketball tournament announced the field Tuesday. Joining the Jayhawks, Spartans and Bruins are Brigham Young, Dayton, Georgia, Virginia Tech and host Chaminade.
“The Maui Jim Maui Invitational has earned a reputation for showcasing powerhouse teams year over year, and we are thrilled to continue that tradition in 2019,” tournament chairman Dave Odom said in a news release. “The Lahaina Civic Center will host some of college basketball’s best programs, coaches and players when these eight teams converge in Maui.”
Kansas, which will play in this weekend’s NCAA Tournament Final Four, will be making its fourth Maui appearance. The Jayhawks won the tournament in 1996 and 2015.
UCLA, the 2006 Maui champion, will be making its sixth appearance on the Valley Isle, while 1991 champion Michigan State will be making its fourth appearance.
The three former champions, who have a combined 16 national championships, as well as Virginia Tech made this year’s NCAA Tournament.
This year’s Maui Invitational –set for Nov. 19-21 at Lahaina Civic Center — features Duke, Xavier, Gonzaga, Arizona, Auburn, Iowa State, San Diego State and Illinois.
