Rainbow Warriors blow past Nittany Lions
Stijn van Tilburg had nine kills, and the second-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team needed just 90 minutes to dispatch No. 11 Penn State in the Outrigger Resorts Invitational on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Austin Matautia had eight kills and three aces, Joe Worsley had 29 assists and 10 digs, and Patrick Gasman had six blocks in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 victory.
Colton Cowell, a King Kekaulike High school graduate, contributed an ace for the Rainbow Warriors (13-2), who out-hit the Nittany Lions .342-.089.
Calvin Mende had 10 kills to lead Penn State (10-6).
The Rainbow Warriors wrap up the tournament today against No. 4 BYU.
