Undefeated Na Pueo send Sabers to first loss of season

The Maui News – Beau Johnston fired a 37 to help the Maui Preparatory Academy boys golf team edge Maui High 172-173 on Wednesday at Kapalua Bay Course.

Hudson Holland carded a 40, Griffin Gibson had a 46 and Akiva Bluh added a 49 for Na Pueo, who improved to 5-0 in Maui Interscholastic League play.

Jordan Terada had the best round of the day, a 35, for the defending MIL champion Sabers. Kaleb Makimoto had a 42 and Marlon Bottorf and Asher Aspili carded 48s. Noah Manual had a 52 and Kenny Hamada had a 54.

At Kaanapali Royal Course, Pierce Dowd took medalist honors with a 42 as the Spartans remained undefeated.

In windy conditions, Kyle Sparks shot a 44, Hudson Jackson had a 46 and Ryan Chang had a 47 for Seabury Hall (5-0). Daniel Judge’s 49 was dropped.

Matt Ramelb led the Lunas (0-5) with a 45. Jensen Powley (46), Jonas Marcial (53) and Kaito Nishiji (55) also scored for Lahainaluna. A 63 from Josh Gutierrez was dropped.

At Pukalani Country Club, Jordan Mitsumura shot a 41 to lead the Warriors to their first win of the season.

Puniawa Vedder added a 47, Dane Abarra had a 49 and Kody Cambra carded a 55 for Kamehameha Maui (1-4). Marcus Ayau had a 76 (dropped score) and non-scoring alternate Max Paschoal had a 61.

Na Alii (0-5) got scores from Trevor Onaga (53), Alohi Dela Cruz (54), Paxti Laborde (57) and Kapono Mossman (57). Kynan Ledee’s 58 was dropped, and William Kahalekai (56) and Ian Mantupar (60) were the non-scoring alternates.
