Bears receive No. 2 seed for state water polo tournament

The Baldwin High School water polo team is seeded second for next week’s Stanford Carr Development State Championship.

The tournament bracket was released Tuesday.

The Bears, who went 12-0 on the way to a second straight Maui Interscholastic League championship, will face either Kealakehe (10-4) or Kalaheo (9-6) in a quarterfinal match May 3 at Kamehameha Kapalama’s Kalani’opu’u Aquatic Center.

MIL runner-up Lahainaluna (8-4) will face Oahu Interscholastic Association third-place finisher Roosevelt (13-3) in the first round Monday at 4 p.m. at Kihei Aquatic Center. The winner will advance to play fourth-seeded Kamehameha Hawaii (14-0) of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation three days later on Oahu.

Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Punahou (9-0) is the top seed; the Buffanblu are the 10-time defending state champions, having won 12 of the 14 state water polo tournaments overall. OIA champion Kahuku (13-1) is the No. 3 seed.
