McDonald wins HSJGA Match Play Championship
Myah McDonald of Kaneohe, Oahu, hits out of the bunker on the 11th hole Sunday during the girls 13-18 division final of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Match Play Championship at Kaanapali Kai Course. After a long day in the heat, McDonald defeated Kyung Eun Lee of Honolulu 1 up after trailing in the championship match. “With Kyung up by four at one point and leading most of the match, I just tried to give my best and not give up — in the end it all worked out,” McDonald said. Earlier in the day, Lee defeated Wailuku’s Lana Calibuso-Kwee in the semifinals, 1 up. Calibuso-Kwee was the lone Maui golfer to enter the day still in contention for a title. Jung had a solid round, defeating Koshi 3 and 2. “Anything within 100 yards, I was sticking it and then making everything,” Jung said. For more results, see Valley Isle Scoreboard.
