Dragons, Hawks punch tickets to MIL Division II semifinals

The Maui News – The Hana High School and Haleakala Waldorf girls volleyball teams extended their seasons Wednesday, picking up victories in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II tournament quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Dragons (10-3) got a team-high seven kills from Shasta Kalalau to defeat St. Anthony 25-14, 25-12, 25-7 in Hana.

Shaylee Roback had 18 assists, three aces and two kills, Fushia Pua had eight aces, Serene Perry had two aces and 16 digs, Atasha Paman-Manrique had five aces and four kills, Pumehana Helekahi added six kills and two aces, and Kanehe Roback had six assists, three kills and two aces for Hana, which faces second-seeded Molokai in the semifinals today in Hoolehua — the teams split their two matches this season.

The No. 6-seeded Trojans finish the season at 3-10.

At Hoolehua, the fourth-seeded Hawks (7-6) defeated the fifth-seeded Pine Lasses (3-10) 25-12, 25-20, 25-20.

Sekaya Verber had 13 kills and 25 digs, and Ramona Borchers had 11 kills, 22 digs and five aces to lead Haleakala Waldorf, which takes on top-seeded Seabury Hall today in the semifinals on Molokai. Mileina Sniffen added seven aces and 50 digs, Samantha Spork had 29 assists and six digs, and Izabelle Palmore had seven kills.
