Spartans win MIL title with sweep of Hana

Ella Connor pounded down 20 kills to go with 10 digs to help the Seabury Hall girls volleyball team capture its second straight Maui Interscholastic League Division II crown Friday night as the Spartans swept past Hana in the tournament final at “The Barn” in Hoolehua.

The Spartans defeated the Dragons 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 to improve to 13-1 and head into next week’s state tournament on Oahu as the MIL’s top seed. Hana (11-4) will face Molokai (10-3) today at 10 a.m. for the league’s second state berth — the Dragons defeated the Farmers in four sets in the semifinals Thursday.

In the tournament championship, Isabel Bennet added 12 kills and four digs for Seabury Hall, which picked up its 10th MIL title since D-II play started in 2005.

Chiemi Powell had 18 assists and four digs, Madee Dougherty had 15 assists and three digs, Nanea Andrade had 11 digs and Anu Akeo had five blocks.

Statistics for Hana were not reported.
