The University of Hawaii football team will play in the Hawaii Bowl, taking on Louisiana Tech in the Dec. 22 game at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, the school announced Wednesday.

Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. It will be UH’s eighth appearance in the Hawaii Bowl, and second in three years under head coach Nick Rolovich.

The Rainbow Warriors completed an 8-5 regular season with a 31-30 overtime victory at San Diego State on Saturday to essentially guarantee an invitation from their hometown bowl. While UH had already clinched bowl eligibility the week before, there was some discussion heading into last week’s game as to whether the Aztecs should be the Mountain West representative in the Hawaii Bowl, were they to beat UH; this year, there are more bowl-eligible teams than there are bowl game spots available.

Louisiana Tech (7-5) finished as runner-up in Conference USA’s West Division. The Bulldogs will be making their fifth straight bowl appearance and seeking their fifth straight bowl win.

UH leads the all-time series with its former Western Athletic Conference foe 8-2.

Also on Wednesday, UH slot receiver John Ursua was named to the all-Mountain West first team, while defensive lineman Kaimana Padello was named to the second team. Honorable mentions included defensive lineman Zeno Choi, cornerback Rojesterman Farris II, quarterback Cole McDonald, linebacker Jahlani Tavai and offensive lineman Solo Vaipulu.
