MIL wrestlers claim three titles at Paani Challenge

The Maui Interscholastic League won three titles in the open division of the Paani Challenge girls wrestling tournament at Punahou School on Saturday.

Lahainaluna High School’s Nanea Estrella was named the event’s outstanding wrestler after beating Baldwin’s Jahnea Miguel 12-9 in the 138-pound final.

Sami Saribay of Lahainaluna won the 107 title, and Baldwin’s Siera Vida beat Lahainaluna’s Shannon Jaramillo 5-0 for the championship at 184.

The event featured more than 300 wrestlers from around the state and Mainland.

Baldwin’s Tianna Fernandez, who was second at 102, Waipuilani Estrella-Beau-champ (second at 127), Shayna Kamaka (second at 168), Liana Ferreira (third at 97), and Leialoha Kaili (fifth at 107); Lahainaluna’s Tayler Pelegrino Hayase (third at 145); ichaelah Vasquez of King Kekaulike, who was sixth at 117; Molokai’s Sunni Chow (second at 155), Chaenel Deluna (fourth at 155), Keeya Bicoy (fourth at 127), Kelsey Lee Bicoy (fifth at 132), and Taye Mowat (fifth at 145).
