Junior tennis classes to start Jan. 29

The USTA Play to Learn youth tennis program’s six-week first spring session will start Jan. 29, with classes held each Tuesday at the Kahului Community Center courts and each Wednesday at the Eddie Tam courts in Makawao.

Classes, for beginners and advance beginners, are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for children ages 12-14, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 6-8 and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for 9-11. The fee is $5 for each hour-long session. Racquets and balls will be provided.

Hubich of Kihei aces No. 4 at Maui Nui

Christine Hubich of Kihei hit a hole-in-one on Dec. 20 at Maui Nui Golf Club.

Hubich aced the fourth hole from 99 yards out using an 8 iron. Witnesses were Barry Hubich, and Rob and Lori Smith.


Washington’s Carroll has hole-in-one

Brian Carroll of Shoreline, Wash., made a hole-in-one on Friday at Pukalani Country Club.

Carroll used an 8 iron to ace the 137-yard eighth hole. Witnesses were Bill Puaa and Jeff Pash.


Hofmann of Pukalani records hole-in-one

Bill Hofmann of Pukalani had a hole-in-one at Pukalani Country Club on Sunday.

Using a gap wedge, Hofmann aced the 90-yard third hole. The shot was witnessed by Bill Ramos and John Terada.
