Navarro places fifth at WCWA championships

Lahainaluna High School graduate Ivy Navarro placed fifth at the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association championships on Saturday in Marietta, Ga.

Navarro, a 2016 state champion for the Lunas who is now a sophomore at Southwestern Oregon, lost her 101-pound semifinal match against Asia Ray of Wayland Baptist. Ray would go on to win the national title.

Navarro dropped her next bout to Nina Pham, also of Wayland Baptist. Pham placed third.

In her match for fifth place, Navarro defeated Junnette Caldera of Jamestown 6-3.

Menlo College won the women’s team championship.
