Farmers top Pine Lasses in five innings in MIL Division II opener

The Molokai High School softball team opened Maui Interscholastic League Division II play with a 19-2, five-inning win over Lanai on Friday on the Pineapple Island.

The Farmers (1-0) piled up 15 hits and scored four runs in each of the first four innings. They put the game away with seven runs in the top of the fifth.

Molokai’s Seaniece Kekahuna led the Farmers at the plate with a 4-for-4 day with a double; Alaijah Pastana was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple; Cahl Horner was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs; and Cami Horner was 4-for-5 with a double, two triples and six RBIs.

Cahl Horner pitched a complete-game five-hitter.

Nyssa Barfield was 3-for-3 with a triple for Lanai (0-1).

Molokai and Lanai are the only MIL D-II teams in softball this season.
