Rainbow Warriors get rare win in Provo, sweep past Cougars

Stijn van Tilburg had 13 kills to help lead the second-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team to a sweep of No. 8 Brigham Young on Saturday to win the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah.

The Rainbow Warriors won 25-20, 25-17, 25-14 as they continued their historic start to the season. They improved to 20-0 while extending their NCAA-record straight set win streak to 60.

UH also snapped a 15-match losing streak at BYU’s Smith Fieldhouse, its last win coming in 2005 — the Rainbow Warriors are now 4-25 all-time playing at BYU.

Rado Parapunov and Patrick Gasman each added 10 kills of UH. King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell had three kills, four digs, two blocks, an ace and an assist.

Gabi Garcia Fernandez led the Cougars (12-8) with 12 kills.
