Rainbow Warriors sweep past Matadors

Rado Parapunov had 12 kills to lead the second-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 win over No. 12 Cal State Northridge on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Stijn van Tilburg and King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell each added nine kills for the Rainbow Warriors, who won in a sweep for the 16th straight time to start the season. They also improved to 3-0 in Big West Conference play.

Cowell hit .643 — UH hit .609 as a team for the match — while also contributing an ace, an assist, a block and five digs.

Dimitar Kalchev led the Matadors (10-9, 0-3 Big West) with 12 kills.

The teams play again today.
