Farmers clinch D-II regular-season crown after Dragons forfeit games

Without taking the field on what would have been its senior weekend, the Molokai High School baseball team clinched the Maui Interscholastic League Division II regular-season title and a state tournament berth when Hana forfeited the final two games of the regular season slated for the Friendly Isle.

The Dragons are battling injuries, according to MIL baseball coordinator Wade Hondo. He said the Dragons (0-8) are expected to participate in the MIL tournament.

The Farmers (7-1) are the three-time defending MIL D-II champions and can clinch another title in the tournament or an overall championship game. For the first time in the eight-team format of the D-II state tournament, the MIL will get two spots to the event.
