Maui High shuts out Kekaulike

Jovita Laloulu pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout to lead Maui High to an 11-0, five-inning win over King Kekaulike in the opener of the Maui Interscholastic League Division I softball tournament on Wednesday at Patsy Mink Field.

The Sabers (6-7) earned the right to face regular-season champion Lahainaluna (10-2) in today’s semifinals at 5 p.m.

Maui High scored three runs in the first inning and eight in the second. Destiny Kama knocked in thriee runs for the Sabers, Hailey Gomes was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, ERin Prieto was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Melia Paet smacked a two-run triple.

King Kekaulike’s season ended at 1-12.

Today’s other semifinal is No. 2 seed Baldwin facing No. 3 Kamehameha Maui at 7 p.m.

The tournament final is set for Friday at 5 p.m.

In the MIL Division II ranks, the tournament final is set for 4 p.m. Friday between regular-season champion Molokai and Lanai. If the Pine Lasses win, a winnr-take-all championship game would be Saturday at 10 a.m.
