• BASKETBALL

Wednesday, Friday–Central Maui Sports Ohana will host free open gym basketball skills workouts on Wednesday and Friday at Wailuku Gym. The sessions are open to boys and girls ages 9 to college. Workouts are ongoing, based on gym availability. Central Maui Sports Ohana is a non-profit club that provides many activities for participants, including entering tournaments, shoes and uniforms. June 10-13–Westside Hoops and Project Thrive’s Another Level Basketball Camp will be held June 10-13 at Lahaina Civic Center and Lahainaluna High School gym. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 2-5 (at Lahaina Civic Center) and 6 and up (Lahainaluna). Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost is $99. • CANOE PADDLING

May 4-5–Hana Canoe Club will host the Sarah Joe Memorial Regatta on May 4-5 at 8 a.m. On May 4, there will be a 5-mile race from Kapueokahi, around Alau Island and back again. On May 5, there will be regatta races for multiple divisions, with emphasis on keiki races. There will be crafts, food, a silent auction, a raffle and entertainment. In an effort to make the event plastic bottle-free, attendees are encouraged to bring refillable water containers. Water from a filling station and biodegradable utensils will be made available.

April 28–Maui Pop Warner will be holding player registration for all teams on April 28. Sign-ups will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at “The Pit” at Keopuolani Park (Central), Kulamalu Field (Kulamalu), Kalama Park (Kihei) and Lahaina Aquatic Center athletic field (Lahaina). Saturday–Slim’s Power Tools’ 26th annual He-Man Competition will be held on Saturday at the Kahului store, located at 142 Kalepa St. Thirty-three male and female contestants are set to compete in four power tool events — Dewalt’s “Hammer da Nail,” (hand nail 10 3-inch nails in a 2×4), Milwaukee’s “Cut da Wood,” (hand saw through a 4×4), Bosch’s “Drill da Bit” (hand drill through a 4×6 using a 5/8 brace drill) and Metabo HTP’s “Unscrew da Screw” (unscrew two 2-inch drywall screws from a 4×4). Preliminary rounds start at 10:30 a.m., with finals scheduled for 1:30 p.m. There is no admission fee to watch the competition.
