Bottorff tied for seventh at state golf

Maui High School’s Marlon Bottorff shot a 3-over-par 75 for the lowest score by any Maui Interscholastic League golfer in the first round of the David S. Ishii Foundation Boys Golf State Championship on Thursday at the Waikoloa Kings Course on the Big Island.

Bottorff had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey to end the day seven shots behind leader Jake Sequin of Mid-Pacific. Sequin leads second-place Kolbe Irei of Roosevelt by two shots heading into today’s final round.

Seabury Hall’s Hudson Jackson was in state-medalist position, tied for 14th after his 77. He led the MIL champion Spartans to a team score of 330, good for fifth place, 20 strokes behind leader Hawaii Baptist. Maui Prep was in 10th at 362.

Among those tied for 20th at 79 after the first day were Kamehameha Maui’s Dane Abarra, Seabury’s Pierce Dowd and Lahainaluna’s Matt Ramelb. Another shot back in a tie for 25th were Maui Prep’s Caleb Chumley and Kamehameha Maui’s Jordan Mitsumura, the MIL individual champion.
