Sabers’ Bottorff places eighth at boys state golf

Marlon Bottorff of Maui High School was the lone medalist from the Maui Interscholastic League at the David S. Ishii Foundation Boys Golf State Championship, finishing in eighth place Friday.

In the final round at the Waikoloa Kings Course, Bottorff fired a 5-over-par 77 for a two-day total of 152.

Mid-Pacific’s Jake Sequin shot a 71 to finish at 139 and take the individual title by two shots over Roosevelt’s Irie Kolbe (71). Kealakehe’s Ethan Jaehn (71) and Maryknoll’s Peter Jung (71) both finished another four shots back to place third and fourth, respectively.

Maui Prep’s Caleb Chumley (77) and Seabury Hall’s Pierce Dowd (78) and Hudson Jackson (80) all finished at 157, in a tie for 18th place.

Dowd and Jackson led the MIL champion Spartans to a sixth-place finish in the team race with a total of 667. Na Pueo placed 10th at 730.

Hawaii Baptist ran away with the team title, posting a total of 618 to beat runner-up Mid-Pacific by 34 strokes.
