Spartans, Farmers bow out of D-II state tournament
The Molokai High School and Seabury Hall baseball teams bowed out of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division II State Championship on Friday, with both schools losing in consolation play at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.
The Maui Interscholastic League champion Farmers lost to Waipahu 9-5.
Iokepa Pelekane tripled, scored two runs and drove in one for Molokai, which finishes the season at 9-4. Saven Kaahanui went 2-for-4, and Kaimana Nakayama and Hezekiah Horner each doubled.
The Marauders (12-2) advance to face Konawaena in the fifth-place game today.
The Wildcats (12-7) earned their spot in the game with a 7-6 win over Seabury Hall in a game called in the sixth inning due to the 2-hour time limit.
Jacob Luther hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Spartans (8-5). Quintin Tanaka batted 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Devin Palazzatto went 2-for-3 with a double and Rafe Perrin scored three runs.
