Ozee, Maglio earn All-America honors

The University of Hawaii’s Amy Ozee and playing partner Emily Maglio earned honorable mention honors as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Beach Volleyball All-America Team on Wednesday.

It is the first All-America honor for Ozee, a junior out of Seabury Hall, while it is the third for Maglio.

Ozee and Maglio played 28 of 38 matches together this season, with all but one coming at the No. 1 flight for the SandBows. They finished 21-7 together, while individually they were both 25-11.


Maui boxers go unopposed at states

Central Maui Boxing Club’s Furious Dickson-Borge and Rocky Balala were crowned champions after going unopposed at the Hawaii State Boxing Championships, held April 27-28 at Wahiawa Middle School on Oahu.

Dickson-Borge was the champion of the 201-pound weight class in the elite division, while Balala won the 123-pound elite division title.

Champions have the opportunity to advance to the national championships.


Larsen of Kihei makes hole-in-one at Kahili

Paul Larsen of Kihei hit a hole-in-one on Monday at Kahili Golf Course.

Larsen aced the 16th hole from 110 yards using an 8-iron. Witnesses were Terry Whaley and Nelson Akiona.
