July 12–The 12th annual Lahainaluna High School Class Challenge Golf Tournament will be held on July 12 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club in Ewa Beach, Oahu. The event, hosted by the Lahainaluna High School Foundation, features a team shamble format. Four-person teams can compete in one of three categories: all class (all four members from the same LHS graduating class), some class (minimum one member from any LHS class) and Luna supporter (open to anyone). Single players will be placed into one of the team categories. The entry fee is $700 per team or $175 per single player and includes lunch, dinner and two mulligans. Tee and tournament sponsorships start at $200. June 29-30–The Molokai Holokai Hoolaulea is set for June 29-30 on Molokai. The festivities include two paddle races. The Maui Jim’s Maui 2 Molokai Challenge begins with the first waves of competitors leaving D.T. Fleming Beach in Kapalua at 8:30 a.m. on June 29. The 27-mile course across the Pailolo Channel will bring paddlers to Kaunakakai, with first finishers expected to finish between noon and 1 p.m. On June 30, the Molokai Holokai Kamalo Run starts at 12:30 p.m. at Kamalo Harbor. The course for SUP and OC paddlers is 10 miles to the Molokai Community Health Center, while the beginners course is 5 miles. There is also a special paddle from Mowat’s homestead to the Health Center that is free and open to all Molokai keiki. There will also be beach and mangrove cleanups from 9 a.m. to noon on June 29. Last-minute Molokai sign-ups will be held at Paddlers Inn from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on June 27 for the Maui 2 Molokai race, and on June 29 for the Kamalo Run.



July 6–Free learn-to-play racquetball lessons will be held on Saturdays throughout the month of July from 10 a.m. to noon at the Maui Family YMCA in Kahului. Participants should bring court shoes and protective eyewear. Sign-ups for the lessons are at the YMCA front desk.



July 4-7–The 64th annual Makawao Rodeo, presented by the Maui Roping Club, will be held July 4-7 at Oskie Rice Arena in Makawao. The rodeo kicks off on the Fourth of July with qualifying runs starting at 9 a.m. Admission is free. The Bull Bash is set for July 5 starting at 7 p.m. (grand entry at 6:30), with gates opening at 4. Tickets are $20 at the gate, or $15 pre-purchased at Minit Stop locations or Pukalani Superette. Wayne Asue will serve as the grand marshall of the Makawao Parade at 9 a.m. on July 6. Rodeo competition starts at 3 p.m. on July 6 and 12:30 p.m. on July 7, with gates opening 2 1/2 hours prior. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students ages 11-17, and free for children 10 and under. Special $25 all-weekend tickets are available at Minit Stop and Pukalani Superette.
