Makawao Rodeo set for July 4-7

The 64th annual Makawao Rodeo, presented by the Maui Roping Club, will be held July 4-7 at Oskie Rice Arena in Makawao.

The rodeo kicks off on the Fourth of July with qualifying runs starting at 9 a.m. Admission is free.

The Bull Bash is set for July 5 starting at 7 p.m. (grand entry at 6:30), with gates opening at 4. Tickets are $20 at the gate, or $15 pre-purchased at Minit Stop locations or Pukalani Superette.

Wayne Asue will serve as the grand marshall of the Makawao Parade at 9 a.m. on July 6.

Rodeo competition starts at 3 p.m. on July 6 and 12:30 p.m. on July 7, with gates opening 2 1/2 hours prior. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students ages 11-17, and free for children 10 and under.

Special $25 all-weekend tickets are available at Minit Stop and Pukalani Superette.


Maui High seeking girls soccer coaches

Maui High School is accepting applications for coaching positions in girls soccer for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

To apply, email a resume to athletic director Michael Ban at michael.ban@k12.hi.us.

The deadline to apply is Friday.


Allen of Kihei has hole-in-one at Maui Nui

Richard Allen of Kihei hit a hole-in-one on Thursday at Maui Nui Golf Club.

Allen used a 6-iron to ace the 17th hole from 140 yards. Witnesses were Maury Davenport, Scott Suda and Norm Mattson.
