Central East Maui majors win state opener; 50/70 falls at regional

The Central East Maui All-Star Majors (11-12) won their opener at the Hawaii State Little League tournament at Naalehu on Hawaii island Friday.

CEM piled up 15 hits. Five players had at least two hits and the offense was led by Nakea Kahalehau’s 3-for-3 day that included a double, a run and four RBIs.

Bransyn Hong and Nicholas Nashiwa combined on a three-hitter on the mound for Central.

At the Little League Intermediate West Regional in Nogales, Ariz., the state-champion Central East Maui team fell to 1-1 in pool play with a 4-2 loss to Petaluma American, the Northern California representative. CEM plays the host team from Nogales National today in its third of four pool play games.

No statistics were available from the Intermediate game.

The state-champion CEM seniors team had the day off Friday and resume play at the West Regional in Sacramento, Calif., today against hometown North Natomas. Central started off the tournament with a 14-0 win over Casper, Wyo., on Thursday.
