Central East Maui teams win regional openers in blowouts

The Central East Maui All-Stars won their opener at the Senior League (15-16) West Regional on Thursday in Sacramento, Calif., defeating Casper, Wyo., 14-0 in five innings.

CEM scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second and five in the third.

For Maui, Tiger Caulford was 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI; Shaeston Machida-Santos was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs; Dylan Kokubun was 2-for-2 with a run and four RBIs; and Wehiwa Aloy was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. CEM piled up 15 hits.

Machida-Santos, Davin Lewis, Zach Pascual and Ethan Tokishi combined on a one-hitter on the mound with 11 strikeouts.

CEM plays again on Saturday against the winner of today’s game between Montana and Northern California.

At the Little League 50/70 Intermediate (12-13) West Regional in Nogales, Ariz., the Central East Maui All-Stars beat Wilsonville, Ore., 16-0 in five innings in its opener.
