Friday–The County of Maui, Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for its 3-on-3 Blue Court Youth Basketball Challenge Tournament in August. There is no fee to enter the tournament. Registration will close at 4 p.m. on Friday. The tournament will take place on Aug. 2-3 at the Waikapu Park outdoor court, Richard Pablo Caldito Ballpark outdoor court and the Kahului School Park outdoor court. There will be boys and girls divisions in 8-11, 12-15 and 15-17 age groups. Fifteen-year-olds will have the option to play in either the 12-15 or 15-17 age groups, but can only play in one. Space is limited to the first eight registered boys and girls teams in each age group. To register a team or for more information, call Sean Bersamin at (808) 463-3161.



July 20–A free clinic for football players and athletes looking to improve their speed and quickness is set for July 20 at King Kekaulike Stadium in Pukalani. A speed and agility session will be followed by a football-skills session. Participants are welcome to do one or both. A short recruiting/college admission process presentation will be held for parents after each session. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. for the 8-8:50 a.m. speed and agility session. Registration for the football-skills clinic starts at 8:30 for the session that runs 9-9:50 a.m. Parent/guardian presence is required to sign in the participants, who are asked to dress in workout attire, including shoes without cleats. July 27–The Maui Trailer Boat Club is hosting the 35th annual Hana Pa’a North Shore Fishing Tournament on July 27 at the Kahului Harbor boat ramp. The weight in station will open at 3 p.m. Application forms can be found online at mauitrailerboat.com or at Maui Sporting Goods and New Maui Fishing in Wailuku. Monday–Mandatory tryout sessions for Maui High School’s fall sports teams begin next week. Students interested in playing should attend and have completed DOE Athletic Medical Physical and Consent, Risk, and Assumption of Risk forms in order to participate. The tryouts schedule is as follows: football, Monday-July 26, 3-6 p.m., Maui High field; bowling, July 22 and 29, 2:30-4 p.m., Maui Bowling Center; girls volleyball, July 29-Aug. 8, 3:30-6 p.m., Shine Matsui Athletic Center; cross country, Aug. 5-17, 3:30-6 p.m., Maui High field; air riflery, Aug. 5-17, 3:30-6 p.m., Maui High tennis court.
