• EQUESTRIAN

Today–The Tom Morrow Equestrian Center in Haiku is holding its annual open house today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free riding is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and 3-4 p.m. The Maui Regulators Drill Team will perform at 2 p.m. The general public is welcome to see the facility, watch riding and meet a horse. The facility will be open to all experienced riders who can bring their own horse — there will not be any horses to rent. Trailer parking will be available. Youth riders must be 8 years old or older, be an experienced rider, wear a protective riding helmet and be accompanied by a supervising adult. A signed waiver, available on site, must be provided by a legal guardian. Riders can also tackle TMEC’s new Trail Obstacle Course, where horses and riders encounter a series of 12 obstacles designed to build confidence, agility, focus and mental and emotional fitness. • GOLF

Friday–Pukalani Country Club will be hosting a nine-hole golf league starting Friday. The league will run on Friday afternoons for eight weeks. There is a $10 sign-up fee per person and a $15 green fee for each round. Prizes will be awarded, and handicaps are calculated from scores. Competitions include closest to the pin, longest drive and lowest net score for individual and team. For more information, call Pukalani Country Club at 572-1314.

Sept. 14–The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui and title sponsor Pukalani Superette will host Rotary Helping Women, the club’s sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser, on Sept. 14 at Pukalani Country Club. Proceeds from the event will support Women Helping Women (WHW), which offers emergency shelter and programs for victims of domestic violence. The tournament format is an 18-hole, four-person, best-ball scramble. A shotgun start is set for 7 a.m. The single entry fee is $100 in advance, $120 at the door. A two-player team is $200 in advance and $240 at the door. The fee includes green fee, shared cart fee, a swag bag, breakfast sandwiches, a lunch buffet, snacks, a door prize drawing ticket and an awards presentation. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Jan. 1–The Sentry Tournament of Champions is seeking volunteers for the PGA tournament set for Jan. 1-5. There are various fields that prospective volunteers can be grouped, including On-Course Marshal, ShotLink (includes both walking scorer and laser operator), admissions and information, on-road transportation and on-course transportation. Sept. 21, 28–Hawaii Pearls Maui will be holding softball tryouts on Sept. 21 and 28 at the Lahainaluna High School field. Tryouts are at 9-10 a.m. for the 10U division, 10:30-1:30 p.m. for the 12U and 13U divisions, and 2-4 p.m. for the 14U and 16U divisions. Only one day is mandatory, but both days are open to everyone. Players should bring their own equipment and a water bottle — a water jug will be provided. Sept. 16–The USTA “Play to Learn” tennis program’s fall sessions are set to begin Sept. 16 and Nov. 4. Each session is six weeks and costs $30 for youth and $56 for adults. Youth beginner (ages 6-8, 9-11) and advance beginner (9-14) classes are offered at Kahului Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at the Eddie Tam Courts in Makawao on Wednesdays.
