Rainbow Wahine fall to 1-1 with loss at Loyola Marymount

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the season after losing to Loyola Marymount 65-51 on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Courtney Middap was the only Rainbow Wahine player to score in double figures with 12 points, while Myrrah Joseph had 10 rebounds to lead Hawaii.

The Rainbow Wahine fell behind by as many as nine points in the first half before battling back with a 12-4 run to close the half and tying it up at 27.

The game remained tight — LMU led 45-42 after the third quarter — before the Lions dominated in the fourth. UH shot just 18 percent (2 of 11) in the final quarter.

Hawaii shot 31.5 percent from the field, lost the turnover battle 18-8 — the Lions racked up 11 steals — and was also outrebounded 43-39.

Ciera Ellington led LMU (1-1) with 13 points. Jasmine Jones added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Rainbow Wahine next play at Pepperdine on Friday.
