Na Alii top Maui pair at state beach volleyball championships

King Kekaulike High School’s Jesse Coralle and Annika Stammberger were the top Maui finishers at the Hawaii Beach Volleyball State Prep Championships on Saturday, placing fourth in the girls varsity division at Queens Beach in Waikiki.
The Na Alii pair finished second in their pool to advance to the championship bracket. There, they beat Punahou’s Isabelle Iosua and Halo Yoshiki 25-16 and then Kamehameha Kapalama’s Carlee Cannella and Kahiau Kaalele 25-19 before falling to eventual champions Indigo Clarke and Samantha Okano of Punahou 25-15 in the semifinals.
Coralle and Stammberger dropped a 25-19 decision to Kahuku’s Keau Kamakeeaina and Serenity Mamizuka in the third-place match.
Also competing in the varsity girls division were the Seabury Hall pairs of Ella Connor and Kiiola Rilveria, and Sevilla Leuteneker and Mileina Sniffen. Connor and Rilveria tied for fifth after falling to Clarke and Okano in the quarterfinals 25-17, and Leuteneker and Sniffen finished tied for ninth after a 25-18 loss to Punahou’s Kassidy Chun and Emi Erickson in the round of 16.
In the boys varsity division, the Seabury team of Thomas and Tyler Russell won their pool and their first-round match before losing to Iolani’s Kaina Alvarez and Kupono Browne 25-20 in the quarterfinals to finish tied for fifth.
The Seabury pair of Clara Miller and Tia Devereux tied for ninth in the girls junior varisty division, dropping a 25-7 decision to Punahou’s Logan Deuchar and Hie Loui in the round of 16.
