Mayor declares Kurt Suzuki Day

Mayor Michael Victorino presents a proclamation to Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki and son Kai on Friday morning in the Mayor’s Conference Room in Wailuku, as the mayor declared Jan. 17, 2020 as Kurt Suzuki Day in Maui County. Suzuki, a 2001 graduate of Baldwin High School, helped the Nationals win the franchise’s first World Series title last year. Today, Suzuki is hosting his annual Kurt Suzuki All-Pono Foundation youth clinic at Maehara Stadium. “Despite all of his success and accolades, Kurt has never forgotten where he came from and the people who supported him along the way,” Victorino said. “His talent on the baseball field is only exceeded by the generosity and love he has for people, and I want to thank him for his continued support of our youth and wish him all the best on the next baseball season.”
